On the 6th and 7th July, the Our Mary Team participated in the International Fishing Competition Dr Antonio Ribeiro Tournament in Madeira. An Exciting weekend, in which we managed to rank in 2nd place! Proud team Our Mary with Angler Barry Johnson, wIth two Tunas and a Dourado.
the 14th June, 61 year old, Mr. Karl Byrne, from Letterkenny Co. Donegal, Ireland joined us on a trip out on Our Mary. A true Irishman contaging everyone onbourd wit his good mood and it seems as it passed on to the fish as he caught a 800 Lbs Blue Marlin.
What an exciting day!
Living on an island makes fishing the craft of many families in Madeira, especially, of those villages closer to the sea. Through history, being associated to fishing meant teaching the secret of the trade, past down through generations. Locals have also have a great season as catch is concerned. May it stay this way.
A Big Eye Tuna weighing 220lbs is the summary of the trip on the 31st May. It was in the late afternoon trip, that we caught this nicely sized fish.
Last Tuesday angler Barry Johnson caught two fantastic Tunas. The 1st weighing 242lbs and the 2nd 198 lbs. A Sweet tasting trip after a few days with no catch.
Nothing better than having the stort in the first hand:
Yesterday while Our Mary was out trawling, we caught the first Blue Marlin of the season. After the strike, everything pointed out a Tuna, due to the fish' behaviour. It realed out almost the line and then we manage to start fighting the fish. We only realised it was a 760lbs Blue Marlin, when it surfaced. Although exciting it ended up dying, in consequence of the distress. A great catch as it is, and served a good purpose as we donated it to a local Charity association.
Angler Steve Jones, joined us once again for a few trips abourd Our Mary. Yesterday whilst hearing Captain Jose explaining how the fishh finder works, he asked what a certain spot was, Captain josé answered: "that´s a fish" and on that precise moment the reel went off, striking a Tuna, losing it in the end.
Heads Up! the first Bill fish of 2013 has been landed. This happened yesterday when, Mr. Christoph Jeckstadt, caught a 60 Lbs White Marlin on a 4 hour afternoon trip. It seems we're in for an exciting Season.
